PPD Senior Manager Enterprise Data, Data Engineering Support & Operations in Morrisville, North Carolina

The Sr Manager Enterprise Data, Data Engineering Support & Operations is responsible for operations within the Data Engineering and Services team. The Sr Manager is accountable for services including 24x7 support & operations, application administration and software maintenance, patching and installation.

In this leadership position, the Sr Manager will partner closely with Enterprise Data management, architects, engineering teams, and business users to drive the upkeep, continuity and maintenance of Enterprise Data’s systems and data assets.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Manages staff within Data Engineering Support & Operations including work assignment, development of staff and performance management

  • Acts as a liaison between Enterprise Data and business leadership. Provides progress updates on key issues, status of resolutions and ensures Enterprise Data is aligned with business concerns

  • Maintain and facilitate awareness of the Enterprise Data infrastructure status and supporting production processes

  • Collaborate with business, IT and Enterprise Data colleagues to communicate planned and unplanned change activities to elevate awareness to clients and stakeholders

  • Provide support and coordination of priority 1 and 2 issues, supporting Enterprise Data by initiating problem awareness, resolution and escalation

  • Function as a production “process critic” by analyzing processes for improvement opportunities

  • Leads the development, update and execution of Business Continuity Plans for systems and data within Enterprise Data


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Computer Science or related area

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8 years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training and experience

  • 2 years of management experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage technology and operation functions within the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical or Clinical Research industries

  • Experience with analytic tools and technologies such as Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE), TIBCO Spotfire and MS Power BI

  • Experience with middleware tools and technologies such as Oracle SOA, IBM Data Power and Akana API Gateway

  • Experience with data integration tools such as Informatica, Oracle Data Integrator, Talend and iPaaS

  • Experience with other technologies such as Oracle Identity and Access Management, Cisco Tidal, Oracle and SQL Server databases and Snowflake Data Warehouse as a Service

  • Client focused approach with strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to assess and prioritize business demands

Management Role:

In some instances may be responsible for a functional area (as determined by executive management) and not have subordinate supervisors or employees.

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.

  • Frequently drives to site locations and frequently travels both domestic and international.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.

  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

  • Moderate mobility required.

  • Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.

  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.

  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.

  • Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
