Randstad is looking for a Server Support Technician to provide support for Unix/Linux Server environment for a long term contract.

Shift: M-F 8am-5pm

General job description:

The Server Support Technician maintain the company's server infrastructure and resolves server-related support incidents. The Server Tech is an escalation resource that will be assigned to resolve incidents outside of the skill set of the Desktop Support Tech team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor performance and capacity of the servers

  • Upgrade standard server software

  • Ensure servers are properly configured

  • Assist in image creation and definition, testing and distribution

  • Resolve customer access issues, add, delete modify users, manage rule base, manage DMZ firewall requests

  • Aid in troubleshooting communication related problems (Sniffer available)

  • Assist with enforcement and maintenance of security policies and procedures

  • Enforce process for moving server/application into production

  • Research and apply patches and service packs

  • Build and configure new servers (kickstart, jumpstart, and Up2date)

  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance

  • Create and maintain server documentation

  • Provide 3rd level+ technical consulting where feasible

  • Manage and document problem resolution within a ticket based system

  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for Unix/Linux Server environment

Skill Set

  • Strong knowledge level of Red Hat Linux and associated tools

  • Expertise with zfs file systems, zfs snapshots and zfs file system recovery

  • Thorough understanding of server hardware and peripherals, including mirrored drives, multipathing, and networking

  • Experience with virtualization technologies, including VMWare

  • Able to demonstrate superior creative, innovative and problem solving skills

  • Able to interpret data, draw conclusions and make recommendations

  • Able to analyze devices, designs, materials and processes

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in a technical discipline

  • 2-3 years experience, at least one of those years as an associate engineer

Certifications desired:

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

  • Certification on Cisco servers preferred
