MetLife is seeking a Manager - Software Development Engineering to join our benefits claims solution design team in Cary, NC. The associate will be experienced in dealing with complex cross-functional, enterprise wide projects with the ability to drive both effective and efficient outcomes. It is expected that the associate, while working independently, will drive these projects from original concept through final implementation and will be able to communicate with stakeholders and leaders the status of specific projects.

  • Manages multiple development projects, development groups and/or application support functions for a business segment.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of multiple, complex, organization-wide systems.

  • Defines and manages resource requirements and allocations, monitors and improves quality, and ensures 'best practice' development techniques.

  • Works closely with client departments in development and implementation of application programs having impact on improving the business. Advises application owners on the technology possibilities and requirements.

  • Directs, motivates and develops staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • 8+ years of hands on project management and execution experience delivering complex software projects using standard SDLC processes

  • 2+ years of experience managing an application development team

  • Bachelor’s degree required with major in related field preferred

  • Organizational intelligence and strong influence management/cross-functional leadership skills; adept at working in a matrixed structure

  • Excellent Relationship Management skills with experience partnering with multiple internal and external teams

  • Very strong presentation and communication skills with experience providing communication to senior leaders

  • Excellent Project Management and Planning skills, with experience in Waterfall and Agile methodologies

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office


  • PMP and/or ITIL certification

  • Experience with financial/portfolio/project management software (Clarity)

  • Experience in the Group Insurance or Finance Industries
