This individual is responsible for hands-on involvement of all aspects of gardening, farming, instruction and product demonstration for SAS and/or other SAS related business. Responsible for creating a clean, organized and efficient garden/farm.
Schedules monthly and yearly tasks and project deadlines, coordinating with residents, staff, company liaisons, and major contractors, and restructuring to accommodate changes in priorities
Plans and develops a fully operational farm including but not limited to landscaping, irrigation, maintenance, soil nourishment, vegetable gardening, hoop house construction, flower beds, fruit trees and livestock care
Harvests and delivers vegetables
Maintains a clean and presentable appearance for the farm at all times
Creates and implements annual garden plan, including successive planting scheme
Orders necessary products to maintain farm
Trains additional farm associates when necessary.
Helps manage farm operating costs to annual budgets.
Assists in the maintenance and landscaping of SAS grounds as necessary.
Maintains the compost program.
Ensures the farm follows proper procedures based on the USDA Health and Food Safety Regulatory Standards for small farms.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in Horticulture or two years or related farming experience
Ability to operate all hand tools, small power mowers, edger, weed-eaters, and chain saws
Ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic
Basic computer skills
Display excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds
Valid North Carolina driver's license
