This individual is responsible for hands-on involvement of all aspects of gardening, farming, instruction and product demonstration for SAS and/or other SAS related business. Responsible for creating a clean, organized and efficient garden/farm.

Duties include:

  • Schedules monthly and yearly tasks and project deadlines, coordinating with residents, staff, company liaisons, and major contractors, and restructuring to accommodate changes in priorities

  • Plans and develops a fully operational farm including but not limited to landscaping, irrigation, maintenance, soil nourishment, vegetable gardening, hoop house construction, flower beds, fruit trees and livestock care

  • Harvests and delivers vegetables

  • Maintains a clean and presentable appearance for the farm at all times

  • Creates and implements annual garden plan, including successive planting scheme

  • Orders necessary products to maintain farm

  • Trains additional farm associates when necessary.

  • Helps manage farm operating costs to annual budgets.

  • Assists in the maintenance and landscaping of SAS grounds as necessary.

  • Maintains the compost program.

  • Ensures the farm follows proper procedures based on the USDA Health and Food Safety Regulatory Standards for small farms.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential

  • Associate‚Äôs degree in Horticulture or two years or related farming experience

Additional

  • Ability to operate all hand tools, small power mowers, edger, weed-eaters, and chain saws

  • Ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing

  • Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic

  • Basic computer skills

  • Display excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds

  • Valid North Carolina driver's license
